The Mishna in Avos (4;14) says "Rabbi Matisya ben Cheresh: says you should preemptively greet every man".

Our Sages explain that the great Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai was particular to preemptively greet each person (even gentiles) he would see in the marketplace.

As we go through life conducting our business and dealings it is very easy to overlook other people. Although it doesn't cost us any money or significant time, just stopping for a minute and warmly greeting someone can make a huge difference in their life. We never know the internal, private and personal struggles our fellow man may be facing and a warm sincere greeting can make a huge impact on their situation.

As we approach the awesome day of Yom Kippur and everyone looks to see how they can repent and improve their ways, if each person could just make an effort to sincerely greet one person everyday it would go a long way in increasing peace and friendship.

I would like to personally ask forgiveness from any of you who I may have been insulted or offended by anything I have written, said or done to them in the past.

May we all be blessed with a happy and healthy new year.

Gemar Chasima Tova and Shabbat Shalom,

Heath
