R' Elimelech Biderman relates a story that a US businessman who works in real estate recently told him. The real estate owner has many properties and some of these are located in very dangerous and crime ridden neighborhoods. The man said that one day he needed to visit one of his buildings in these tough neighborhoods, but he had along with him $40,000 in cash and two MP3 players. He was driving a fancy car and was reluctant to make the stop but he needed to. He left his car, placed the envelope with the money down with the two MP3 players on top. He locked his car and quickly went in to the building to take care of what he needed to do. As he returned to his car, he saw the windows were smashed and realized that his car was broken into. He quickly looked inside and saw the two MP3 players were stolen from on top of the envelope but the thief didn't touch the envelope. The man was ecstatic as his money was saved. Instead of looking at the fact that his windows were smashed and his Mp3S were stolen he made a party because his $40k was spared.

We have experiences like this all the time but we don't always realize that the $40k we have or whatever we may have that is much more valuable than money has been spared. When some calamity befalls a person C'V there is always something that has been spared and we have to realize and understand that this was in fact spared by Hashem's Kindness. We need to focus on what we have and not what we don't have.

Shabbat Shalom,

Heath
