Told over by R'Biderman-

There was a story of two people waiting in line to seek advice, counsel and assistanceĀ  from a great Chassideshe Rabbi. The Rabbi saw the first man in line who look downtrodden and broken. He understood that the man was very poor and was coming to ask him for advice and financial assistance. The Rabbi had a problem though, he had no money to offer and to give this man. He saw that waiting behind this man was an affluent businessman who always leaves him with a generous check to distribute to the needy. The rabbi therefore motioned for the wealthy man to come in first skipping the poor man in line. The wealthy man came in and handed the rabbi an envelope with a check inside. The rabbi didn't even open it and then called in the poor man who was waiting. The poor man entered into the rabbi's study irate andĀ  screaming. He said that in other places he would expect they would take the wealthy man in before him, but by the rabbi he expected to find truth, how could the rabbi treat him like this? The rabbi's attendant was there and became very angry with the man's chutzpah, but he saw the rabbi was quiet so he didn't anything either. The rabbi listened to the poor man's complaints and without saying a word handed him the unopened envelope which had the check inside. The man left the room and the attendant turned to the rabbi in bewilderment. He asked, "why didn't you tell him the real reason why you took the rich man first? He continued asking why the rabbi didn't "put the man into his place" for his chutzpah. The rabbi turned to his attendant and explained that we act in the same way with G-d. We see one thing that seems like it is unfair or unjust, and we ask how could G-d do this to us? Don't we understand that He is looking out for our best interest and "if someone skips us in line" or something else happens not according to "our plan" G-d is preparing the ground for our best interest.

Shabbat Shalom,

Heath
