On Rosh Hashana we declare that Hashem is the King and rules over the entire world. Many explain that to the extent that we declare and truly accept upon ourselve's Hashem Kingship He Will inscribe us in the book of life.

There is an interesting pasuk in (Shmuel 1) when Bnei Yisroel approach Shmuel and ask for a king to be appointed over them so they could be like the other nations. This request was a rejection of Hashem's Kingship. Hashem tells Shmuel to tell the people that when they have a king if they cry out to Hashem to save them He won't. The Mahra Kri (one of the commentators) explains that when Bnei Yisroel accepted Hashem as their King even if they didn't always do what they were supposed to do and they were therefore faced with hardships, when they would turn to Hashem and cry out, He Saved them. The reason is because they identified themselves as subjects of the King, for the King not to defend his subjects and save them is an affront to the King's Honor and power. Even if the subjects are not worthy on their own merit if they accept the king then for the king's honor they will be saved.

We must accept Hashem's Kingship upon us and desire to act in accordance with His Wil, and pray that the entire world recognizes Hashem as King.

With this may we all merit a Chasiva V'chasima Tova.

Shabbat Shalom,

Heath
