This weekend we will celebrate the holiday of Shavuot, which is when the Jewish People received the Torah from G-d. Although there is a disagreement whether it is formally a commandment to "remember" the giving of the Torah, everyone agrees that it is a fundamental basis of our faith. It is the revelation at Mount Sinai which differentiates the basis of our faith from all of the other beliefs in the world. Judaism is the only religion that makes a claim of mass revelation. We are the only religion that claims the basis for our faith and laws to be a Divine revelation which the entire nation (millions of people) experienced. All other religions are based on individuals that claim they experience some kind of revelation. These individuals were able to successfully convince the masses that their revelation was true and accurate thereby giving birth to their religion.
One who denies the Divine Origin of the Torah is considered a heretic in Jewish Law. In our society we are surrounded by many different ideas and theories many which run antithetical to our Holy Torah. It becomes more and more important to strengthen ourselves and our families, to remember and internalize in our minds and our hearts the great revelation which our entire nation experienced at Har Sinai. To have the constant awareness that the Torah is the unchanging and unwavering Will of G-d.
Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach,
Heath
