This Shabbas is called Shabbas "Nachamu" because of the Haftorah that is read which starts with the words Nachamu. This begins a period of consolation for the Jewish Nation after the period of mourning that began with the 17 of Tammuz and culminated with the fast of Tisha Baav. The previous few weeks have historically been a tragic time for our Nation where we have seen calamity after calamity. How can we possibly find consolation on a national and personal level? The answer is found in the words of the Haftorah, in which the Navi states that Hashem is the One who consoles us. The greatest consolation of any tragedy is realizing that it is Hashem behind it all. If it was clear to us in our minds and hearts that it is Hashem who is orchestrating everything then this is a true consolation. We are able to realize that any suffering or discomfort we may Chas V'Shalom experience is only a small dot in the greater scheme of things and these small dots are what makes up the beautiful masterpiece of our existence and purpose.
Shabbat Shalom,
Heath
