In this week's parsha we read the verse that says "not only upon the bread does man exists but upon all that comes from the mouth of G-d does man exist." In our day to day lives we may be accustomed to thinking that we provide for ourselves and our family it is through our own hard work that we can afford the food and other necessities (and luxuries) that we have. Even if we are stronger in our belief and realize that G-d provides us with our financial stability, there is still a tendency to feel that without the specific job or source of income we may currently have, things will be lost. In truth though our job is to only put in effort to sustain ourselves and this is a situation which was only created after man sinned. Whether that effort is successful or not has absolutely nothing to do with our effort it has to do with what Hashem Decides. But we can understand something much deeper from this verse, and that is even if we have all of the food and sustenance, nevertheless without that which comes from the mouth of G-d, we can't exist. It is the life and health that G-d gives us that allows us to remain. There are plenty of wealthy people who have all the luxuries in the world but they aren't healthy enough to enjoy them. What good does food do for a person if they can't eat? In every situation then we must always remember the true source of our sustenance.
Shabbat Shalom,
Heath
