In this week's parsha we read the story about the flood and the ark that Noach was commanded to build in order to save himself and his family. The world became full of immorality and G-d wanted to rebuild the world, so to speak, with Noach and his family. For an entire year Noach and his family lived in the ark along with all of the animals. Outside there was a raging flood which destroyed everything. Inside Noach found refuge and the spiritual preparations were being made for him to rebuild the world.

We too live in a world filled with immorality, chaos and turmoil. Sometimes the turmoil is external and sometimes it is internal but we need to be able to create for ourselves our own ark. We need to be able to take refuge from everything around us, to uplift ourselves above the raging waters, to insulate ourselves and family from dangers of our world. This ark needs to be a place where we can focus our mind and energy on our real purpose. This is the only way we can successfully navigate the waters of our modern day flood without getting swept away.

Shabbat Shalom,

HeathÂ
