In this week's parsha we begin to read about the exile of the Jewish People in Egypt and the groundwork is laid for their eventual redemption. It is interesting to note that Moshe Rabbenu who was sent to redeem the nation, went through a number of ups and downs. There was a decree against all males that they should be killed. Then Moshe was born and brought light to his family as they thought he would redeem the people. But then after fearing he would be discovered his parents placed him in an ark and sent him into the Nile. Then he was saved by the daughter of Pharoh and raised in the royal palace as a prince. Pharoh then wanted to kill him and Moshe ran away. Hashem then chose him to lead the people and redeem them from their servitude, he was accepted by the people, but when he failed to secure their release the servitude became more severe. There was a continual up and down.
The salvation didn't come in one split second, it was a process of ups and downs. We are all waiting on a personal salvation from some difficulty in life as well. We must realize though that sometimes this has ups and downs, sometimes we think the end has finally come we have finally prevailed just to be push down again. Think back to Moshe it was a constant up and down until the salvation finally came. We can't give up hope and belief as the ups and downs are part of the entire process.
May we see the final redemption speedily in our day.
Shabbat Shalom,
Heath
