In this week's parsha we read Balak. The Torah tells us that the wicked Bila'am and Balak joined forces to try and destroy the Jewish People. The pasuk describes Bila'am as being "fallen with revealed eyes". Although Bila'am was given a certain level of Divine Revelation this was only given to him when he was in a "fallen" state, when he was sleeping.

Many people as well only see G-d, when they are in a fallen state. When things go wrong, when someone is sick or loses their job etc. then we "see" G-d. But when things are going great and life is humming along then we don't "see" G-d. This is a very negative trait (although common)  which is associated with Bila'am and something we must work to eradicate from our hearts. This is part of the beauty of the obligation to pray daily. When we take time each day to connect to G-d to realize and verbalize that everything we have is from Him, to unplug and disconnect from our mundane surroundings then it helps us to "see" G-d even in the good times.

Shabbat Shalom,
