This week we bless the new month which starts on Sunday, the month of Elul. It was on the first of Elul that Moshe Rabbeinu ascended Mount Sinai to receive the second set of tablets after the first set were broken due to the sin of the Golden Calf. Moshe remained on the Mountain for 40 days which culminated with his descent on the Holy Day of Yom Kippur. These forty days have been etched and established of days that we can attain forgiveness and closeness with Hashem. These are days that we too can ascend the spiritual mountain and uplift ourselves. We can overcome the challenges we face and gain strength by recognizing the reality of life.
The world has experienced the pandemic for over a year now. It has recalibrated many people, it has forced us to re-evaluate our priorities and the essence of our lives. For many people this has been the catalyst for change and awakening. We now have the opportunity to solidify those changes to make them part of us, to not only recognize that we have been off the mark in many instances in our lives but to actually change course for the better.
Shabbat Shalom and Chodesh Tov,
Heath
