In this week's parsha we read that when difficulties befall the Jewish People, they will say that the reason these difficulties have come about is because "Hashem is not with us". The commentators debate the nature of this statement, but according to Sforno it is a statement of lack of belief. The next verse states that Hashem tells them the reason the difficulties have befallen them is because "Hashem has hidden His Face from the Jewish People".

The people made the mistake in thinking that G-d has G-d Forbid abandoned them, that He is "no longer with us", but the truth is that Hashem is always with us even in the hardest circumstances. At times we are faced with adversity but it is the result of "Hashem hiding His face" don't think that He is not there, we just simply can't always see Him in the way we wish. This is a message that Moshe was leaving with the Jewish People before his passing, a message that we need to internalize and carry with us throughout our journey.

Gemar Chasima Tova!

May G-d send a speedy recovery to all of our sick brothers and sisters.

Shabbat Shalom,

Heath
