In this week's parsha we read the story about the three angels which came to visit Avraham and they informed him that his wife Sarah would give birth. Avaraham and Sarah were in their 90's and by all natural means were unable to bear children at that point.
When the angels came to Avraham he prepared for them a lavish, luxurious meal and the angels asked where is Sarah? The Chasam Sofer explains that the angels' question was based on what our sages tell us that the nature of a woman is to be stingy with her guest. Normally a woman would not have given such a lavish meal to her guest so they assumed that Avraham was the one to prepare the meal and that Sarah was not present. When Avraham responded that their assumption was incorrect and Sarah was in fact inside the tent and present, they realized that she was able to overcome her nature. They therefore blessed and informed her that she would merit to have a child at her advanced age, against the laws of nature.
We are faced in life with many tests and challenges, but if we want to merit supernatural Divine Assistance that goes against nature then we too need to make strides to overcome our nature.
May all of our sick brothers and sisters have a speedy recovery!
Shabbat Shalom,
HeathÂ
