In this week's parsha Yaakov Avinu on his deathbed blesses his sons, the leaders of the twelve tribes. In the blessing to his son Dan he states "for your salvation I hope Hashem". Everyday in the Shemona Esrei (Amidah) we pray for the re-establishment of the Davidic dynasty and the coming of the Messiah. We state "because we hope for your salvation every day". The question is asked if we merit then the salvation will come and if we don't merit then we will have to wait how Is "hoping" for the salvation a reason that the salvation should come? But the truth is, that our hoping for G-d's salvation is a reason for our salvation. In the merit of our hope and realization that our salvation is dependent on G-d, that itself is enough of a reason to be saved from our pain, suffering and exile.

Hoping for G-d's salvation is not an "act of desperation" , it is the strongest tool we have to actually bring about salvation. When we realize that our success and salvation from any difficult situation is dependent on G-d we are able to connect to G-d who is infinite and not bound by any of the natural limitations that are causing our distress.

Shabbat Shalom,

Heath
