In this week's parsha we read about the Manna which was miraculous "food" which Hashem rained down upon the Jewish People and sustained them for the forty years that they traveled in the desert. Our sages and the commentaries explain that the Manna served to implant in the minds and hearts of the people that there is only one real source of their sustenance, G-d. In order to receive this sustenance they would need to look heavenwards, they would need to put their trust fully in Hashem who sustains everyone and everything.

The Meshech Chachma explains that the Manna was given to the Jewish People even before they received the Torah. This was to show us that even though a person may not be the most righteous and may be lacking in Torah nevertheless if he realizes the true source of his sustenance and puts his trust in Hashem then he is deserving of Manna. No matter where a person finds themselves in regards to religious observance, if they understand and fully trust that G-d will sustain them then that trust is a reason for them to be sustained.

Shabbat Shalom,
