This evening we will G-d Willing usher in the holiest day of the year Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is a day when we detach from the physicality, we emulate the angels, and we can gain a clear perception of inner depths of life and our existence. We can gain the understanding that sins are not the real us, it is a time for us to reconnect with our true reality which is normally hindered by our daily lives when not approached correctly.
Unlike the other festivals when the Torah speaks about the nation "going up" to Jerusalem and the Temple to sacrifice animals, the focus on Yom Kippur is the Kohen Gadol "going in" to the holy of holies. When a person has to "go up" they are required to gain certain heights and to travel a distance, but in order to "go in" that isn't necessary. Everywhere, everyone can "go in" we can turn and go into our hearts and the depths of our existence. We don't have to travel far; it is very "close" for us to turn in and introspect. This may be the reason why every Jew no matter their affiliation has a connection to the Yom Kippur Holiday.
May we all merit to be sealed in the book of Life.
Gemar Chasima Tova,
HeathÂ
