In this week's Parsha besides for reading about the famous story of the flood and Noah's ark, we also read about the story of the tower of Bavel. The Torah tells us that mankind decided they were going to "wage war" against G-d so to speak. They began to construct a tower in hopes of reaching the Heavens. Hashem reacted by causing mankind to disperse and the unified language which they spoke was "confused" and people began speaking different languages. This was the "birth" of the seventy different nations that the Jewish People would live among. Our sages compare this to a sheep living among seventy wolves.

I saw an explanation from Rabbi Issac Chaver, that when mankind had a unified language they could work together and formulate a universal goal. Once they were dispersed and separated into different nations it wasn't just diversity of langauge but it caused a diversity of thought as well. Some nations would think one way and other nations would think another way. He explains that this serves to aid the Jewish People, as one nation(s) is bent on destroying us another nation may not agree and help defend the Jewish People. This is a reality that we see clearly today as there are nations and voices who have risen up to destroy us while others have chosen the path of justice to fight these voices and stand with the Jewish People.

Shabbat Shalom,

May G-d protect us all and may we see vengeance exacted from all of our enemies speedily.
