From the start of Sefer Shemos for the following weeks there is a period which is referred to as Shovavim. This is a time in which many people spend repenting with a specific emphasis on overcoming our evil inclinations and urges.
R'Elimelech Biderman- related the following parable.
There was a man who went to the bank and he asked the bank teller what is the biggest deposit you have ever gotten. The teller told the man that they received a deposit for $1,300,000,000. The man was astonished and he asked the teller how long did the customer deposit the money for? The teller answered that the customer left the money in his account for only one day. The man asked the teller why did the customer put money in for only one day. The teller said that since the bank pays interest on the deposits, this customer who left his money in for only one day still made a small fortune on the interest he earned for that one day.
Sometimes we have struggles that are hard to overcome but even just overcoming for one day or even a few minutes, has a tremendous impact.
Shabbat Shalom,
Heath
