In this week's Parsha we read about the episode of the spies which Moshe sent to scope out the Land of Israel. Of the twelve spies ten of them sinned and returned with a "negative" report about the Land of Israel. The two righteous spies, Yehoshua and Calev didn't sin and specifically Calev the Torah says since Calev had a different spirit within him I will bring him and his children to inherit the Land. Rav Moshe Feinstein asks, why did Calev receive such a reward?

He explains that when the spies came back with their negative report this started a rebellion among the Jewish People and they lost confidence in their ability to successfully conquer the Land of Israel. Calev tried to convince the people otherwise and strengthen them in their faith and trust in Hashem that they will be able to conquer the Land. Even though Calev was only able to convince the people and strengthen them for a few moments, before they reverted to their rebellious views, the few moments that he was able to strengthen the people was the reason he was given such a reward.

This teaches us a powerful lesson that even if we strengthen ourselves for a few moments and overcome our evil inclination briefly or have a few moments that we purify our desires and truly desire to improve ourselves, these moments carry tremendous impact.

May this be in the merit of a speedy recovery for Miriam bas Gittel

Shabbat Shalom,
