Prayer for the Hostages

IN THE SHADOW OF OCTOBER 7
On Shemini Atzeret Oct 7 2023 Hamas attacked Israel with brutal savagery that will remain an indelible scar on the Israeli psyche. We cannot take away the pain of loved ones lost in that attack or subsequent war nor can we comfort the families of the hostages in captivity. But we can daven for an end to the war and release of the hostages. We can say Tehillim asking for protection. We can do Mitzvot. We can give Tzedakah. We can light a Yartzeit candle to honor all those who fell in the invasion and all those who fell fighting for peace and justice. We can remember the names of the hostages still in captivity as we pray for their return.

On Succot, Jews will give thanks to Hashem for watching over us during the long journey to the promised land – just as Hashem is watching
over His people and His land now. Am Yisrael Chai.

Since October 7, 2023, we have been praying for Israel, for the safety and speedy return of those taken as hostages and are captive in Gaza, for the safety of our soldiers, for victory over our oppressors, and for peace. May Hashem hear our prayers and bring an end to the misery and conflict. Below, we provide the English and Hebrew names of the captives for prayers, along with the Hebrew name of their mothers for those who are alive and the Hebrew name of their fathers for the deceased. This list was compiled and is updated by chabad.org/hostages. Here is a list of some suggested chapters of Tehillim for Israel, for our soldiers, and for the captives. Chapters 20, 69, 120, 121, 124, 130, 150.
